Since 2010, Across U-hub has been dedicated to raising environmental awareness through our Tomorrow Starts Today programs. These initiatives are designed to educate youth on becoming socially responsible citizens through hands-on stewardship. We believe the future of our planet is shaped by our actions today — because actions speak louder than words.

Join us for a meaningful experience as we team up with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) to plant 100+ trees, shrubs, or wildflowers.

Park in front of the Robert Holland Interpretive Centre near the park’s main entrance.
Washrooms are available at the Centre.

* Participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from the meet-up location.

What are the objectives?

  • Develop a sense of belonging by rooting ourselves in our city.
  • Ignite a sense of wonder through practical environmental action.
  • Appreciate the beauty of the spring season.

What will you learn & experience?

  • Identify native trees, shrubs, and invasive species.
  • Master the proper way to plant a tree.
  • Meet new people who share a passion for conservation.
  • Connect with the natural world coexisting within Toronto’s urban environment

Activities include

  • Stewardship: Plant, mulch, and water 100+ trees and shrubs.
  • Exploration: Enjoy a guided nature hike to explore the park’s local plants and habitats.
  • Community Care: Help with litter removal around the park as time permits.

Dress code

The planting site is part of a wetland and will be wet and muddy.

  1. Footwear: Waterproof shoes (rubber boots or hiking boots) are highly recommended. An extra pair of shoes for the ride home is suggested.
  2. Clothing: Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothes. Wear long pants and tuck them into your socks to prevent contact with insects and grass.
  3. Rain Gear: Bring a raincoat or waterproof jacket.

What to bring?

  1. Food: Packed lunch and snacks.
  2. Hydration: A full personal water bottle.
  3. Protection: Sunscreen, a hat, and insect repellent.
  4. Gloves: Bring your own gardening gloves for the best fit, though TRCA will provide extras.
  5. Safety: If you have allergies, please bring an EpiPen. Stinging insects are present in the park.
  6. Disclaimer: Participants are responsible for their belongings. Please do not bring valuables.

Cancellation Policy

The event will run rain or shine. It will be cancelled if there is a greater than 70% chance of thunderstorm or if hazardous weather arises. We will email registrants by 8:00 am the morning of the event if there is a cancellation.
