Introduces participants to wood as a MATERIAL and woodworking as an ART FORM
Raise participant’s KNOWLEDGE on woodworking and INTEREST on wood design using your HANDS, HEART and MIND
EXPLORE the material properties, design process, and various application methods
An in-class whittling project will allow student to use wood as a medium for CREATIVE EXPRESSION
Learn the basic woodworking TOOLS and TECHNIQUES from choosing a wood to design and finish a wood product
Woodworking materials, hand tools and whittling sticks are all included
Final product: 1 to 4 piece(s) of completed whittling objects (Depends on the progress and preference of each participant)
Graduated from OCAD University in Environmental Design and a minor in Furniture Design, Henry Zhang is now a designer/ maker and a woodworker situated in Toronto. He is currently a Class Assistant and a Sessional Instructor in OCAD University and has multiple collaborations with a variety of local companies and designers. Henry believes that each piece of work he creates should have a story to tell or a message to send out. He strives to stay true to his materials and be honest in methods of construction.
