The Crafteria Exhibition Opening Night welcomes all artists, their family and friends to take a first peek of their art work. Come and celebrate the exhibition opening with mocktails and hors d’oeuvres.

《造藝場》展覽開幕之夜歡迎從事藝術創作者及愛好藝術作品的朋友們出席參加,欣賞參展作家的優秀傑作,與他們會面暢談創作心得,讓我們一起為是次展覽揭開序幕。

The finale of the Crafteria Exhibition is a silent auction event where 15 pieces of art work donated by our Crafteria artists is going to a generous’ donor’s home. At the finale, we will announce the new owner of the art pieces. All proceeds of the silent auction is going towards the charity youth organization Across U-hub.

Sylvia Chan 陳子晴

Being recently selected as one of Canada’s Top 150 featured artists in the first Canada-wide Art Catalogue, Sylvia is an Ontario Certified Teacher who inspires youth to make a difference in their community by using their creativity and imagination.
In addition to teaching, she creates original artwork to beautify homes and business spaces. She is also the founder of Paint A Smile, a non-profit organization committed to providing art workshops for kids in need in the community so they can learn to be confident and unleash their creativity.

剛剛被第一屆加拿大藝術展覽編目列入全加150名傑出藝術家之一的陳子晴是一名安省註冊教師。她熱心於激勵青年的創造力和想像力來改變社區。
教學之餘,她亦為私人和辦公場所繪製原創藝術作品。由她創辦的Paint A Smile公益組織致力為社區內有需要的孩子開設藝術培訓班,讓孩子們在學習中提升自信,發揮創造力。

Suki (Hoi Yi) Lai 賴凱兒

Hoi Yi (Suki) Lai is an emerging Toronto-based Jeweller who is originally from Hong Kong. She recently graduated from the Material Art and Design program at OCAD University. Her interest and passion in jewellery led her to become a studio monitor at her school.
She aims to express the idea of bringing beauty to the mundane and a different perspective to the viewer within her jewellery.

賴凱兒來自香港,現居多倫多,是一名嶄露頭角的珠寶匠。她剛畢業於安省藝術設計學院材料藝術和設計學系,主修珠寶設計。由於她對珠寶創作的濃厚興趣和熱情,這樣的興趣和熱誠促使她成為了學院的工作室負責人。

The artist created this piece to raise awareness of the Monarch butterfly being protected as an endangered species in Canada. The idea that we have forgotten about the beauty of these creatures and that they are losing their habitat and their colours because of human’s selfish actions.
黑脈金斑蝶是一種在加拿大瀕臨絕種的生物。因為人類自私的行為,破壞自然生態環境,損害了她們的生長條件,在遺忘她們的美態和鮮豔色彩之先,作者盼望透過這件創作提醒公眾保護黑脈金斑蝶的生存空間。

Henry Zhang 張熙

Graduated from OCAD University in Environmental Design and a minor in Furniture Design, Henry Zhang is now a designer/maker and a woodworker located in Toronto. Henry believes that each piece of work he creates should have a story to tell or relay a message. He strives to stay true to his materials and be honest in his methods of construction. He is currently a Sessional Instructor and Class Assistant at OCAD University.

Braille is a tactile writing system of small dots used by people with impaired vision to read with their finger tips. It is traditionally written with embossed paper. Based on a visual representation of the Braille writing system, this piece turned the word “love” into a wearable symbolic object that is both precious and meaningful. It was made using a casting process call Delft clay casting.
點字是視覺障礙者和失明者所用的特殊書寫方式。這種文字原本是書寫在壓花紙上的。本作品以視覺再現的方式,將點字的「愛」字化為一種珍貴而富有深意的佩戴飾品。本作品採用代爾夫特黏土鑄造,是純手工創作。

A small constructed box made from domestic walnut, using the traditional splined miter joint method for its corner connections, this box does not have any metal used for fastening. The splines not only strengthen the structure, but provide a design element that showcase the simplicity and honesty of the box.
這是一件由加拿大核桃木構造而成的小匣子,各面的接合處放棄了採用金屬材料,而使用傳統的抽心斜接法榫合。接邊的木條不僅令木匣的結構更加穩固,還成為了視覺設計的一部分,彰顯匣子的簡約和樸實。

This bowl is made from a single piece of solid hard maple. The black coloured exterior surface was a result of an ancient Japanese charring technique known as Shou Sugi Ban. It involves first charring the wood then cooling, cleaning, and finishing it with a coating of beeswax.
這隻木工碗具是由一原塊天然硬楓木製作而成。她深邃的黑色外壁是由日本古法炭化工藝——燒杉板而得來的。燒杉板工藝要求匠人首先將木塊炭化,冷卻,潔淨,然後再使用蜜蠟為其表面鍍層。

Kanson Lee 李啓俊

Graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the OCAD University, Kanson is a acrylic and watercolour visual artist. His favourite subjects include animals, landscape and surrealism. In his paintings, you will see a crossover on these subjects as he creates a sensible mood for viewers. He wishes to explore an alternative method of communicating with people by conveying different emotions in his paintings. In Kanson’s paintings, you’ll see that he is able to illustrate that emotion strongly though color, tone, content, and composition of his subject matter.

李啟俊在安省藝術設計學院取得美術學士學位,他擅長用塑膠彩和水彩作畫。作品主題包括動物,風景,及超現實主義藝術。觀賞者經常在他的作品中體驗到主題交疊而激發出引人入勝的情緒。他希望創作出一種新的溝通方式,就是將情緒融入畫作中,讓觀賞者通過色彩,色調,內容,空間結構感受得到他的澎湃情感。

Carmen Tam 譚文颖

Carmen Tam completed her diploma in Jewelry Arts from George Brown College in 2002 and completed her certificate in Gemmology from the Canadian Gemmological Association in 2009. Carmen has been working at Umicore Precious Metals Canada as well as creating her own collection and working with other artists.

譚文穎於2002年畢業於喬治布朗學院主修珠寶藝術,2009年榮獲加拿大珠寶協會珠寶學的專業證書。她任職於Umicore Precious Metals Canada,不僅與其他藝術家協作設計,亦擁有自己開創的珠寶系列。

This necklace was inspired by a splash of water. Designed with a touch of unique modified form. This particular rutile quartz was chosen due to the transparency with very little rutile inclusions representing as water.

Miranda Lee 李頴怡

A graduate of Environmental Design and an interior designer, Miranda Lee is now pursuing a minor in ceramics at OCAD University. She fell in love with the properties, personality, and spirit of the clay. A person with few words, she believes that clay can tell a story like no other material. She hopes that she can continue to embrace the handmade and contemporary ceramic culture through stories in her work.

李頴怡擁有安省藝術設計學院環境設計學位,目前修習陶藝課程,她曾任職室內設計師,現在是一名業餘陶藝師。近年,她醉心於黏土的性質,品格,和精神。本身寡言的她相信黏土可以講述其他材料不能講述的故事,希望通過她的陶藝作品所講述的故事,繼續發揚手工文化和當代陶藝文化。

In the past decade, Alex’s passion in storytelling brought him to various exciting art forms, including videography, video editing, live sand art performance, painting and more. She was the youngest patient at the centre and had contracted the virus from her family members.To a child whose parents are drug addicts and HIV positive, what kind of future would she have? Hope comes from the love she received through the hands of the servants of Christ. With hope, there is a future.

On a chilly morning in Jerusalem, a Palestinian boy was selling bread near David’s Tower in the Old City. It was a busy street full of tourists, buses and quite often Jewish Rabbis passing by. Through his eyes, the viewer sees his full intent on selling bread. Meanwhile, his young peers would likely have their heads full of everything, but making a living.
在耶路撒冷城中一個春寒抖峭的早晨,一個不到十歲的巴勒斯坦小男孩在街邊販賣著麵包。在舊城區近大衛塔的繁忙街道上,充斥著遊客和巴士,不時有猶太教的教師迅步走過。當其他孩子從不操心謀生之計,然而這個巴勒斯坦小男孩的眼裡,只專注著售賣自己手上的麵包以充生計。

Elaine Joy Roach

Elaine Joy Roach crafts beautiful papers into small treasures. Her art practice explores emotions and nature by creating imagery using various paper tones, textures and translucencies. She works predominantly with paper but includes hand-weaving and woodworking among her passions. Elaine is a re-emerging artist, and an award-winning designer from OCAD University.

Fierce is a handmade paper cutting art piece of an owl guarding the forest. Owls are strong and beautiful creatures. Elaine was inspired by an owl documentary during her teaching sessions at the “Crafteria” workshop.

Harry Choi 蔡頌平

Harry Choi is a Chinese-Canadian photographer. He came to Toronto from Hong Kong in the 1990s as a student. He was fascinated by the cultural differences between the two cities, so he started to use his camera to document visual diaries. His passion for photography strengthened when he worked alongside creative minds in a design studio. He received his first photography award in 2011 at the Chang School in Ryerson University for his work “To Serve and Protect” from the G20 Toronto summit. In 2014, he became a freelance photographer and strives to make photographs that not only record history, but also preserve the mood and feel at a particular moment in time.

蔡頌平是一位加籍華人攝影師。90年代從香港漂洋過海來到了多倫多,兩個城市之間巨大的文化差異吸引著年少的蔡頌平,啟動了他用相機記錄每天生活的念頭。期後,在一所設計工作室任職,終日與一群藝術家為伍,肯定他對攝影的熱忱。2011年,他的作品「服務與保護」,首次榮獲懷雅遜大學的Raymond Chang學院頒發攝影大奬。蔡頌平現職自由攝影師,致力記錄歷史事件,並專注以攝影保留情感的片段。

The photographer captured this series of work from the Canadian Rockies to discover his identity as a Chinese Canadian amid Canada 150. He felt humbled when he was surrounded by the sight of endless range of mountains. It reminded him of his days hiking with his friends and family back in his home town. With Chinese landscape paintings in mind, he produced these images as a symbol of his multicultural identity.
這一組加拿大洛磯山脈的作品是攝影家慶祝加國150 週年之作,並藉此探索自己加國華裔身份的特質。坐擁在無垠的群山懷抱內的一剎那,作者感受到自己的有限和渺小。眼下美麗的山景,勾起昔日與友人漫步故鄉山野的情景。作品充份表現作者心繫中國山水之美,胸懷加國多元文化之情。

Noelle Feodora Mok 莫亦欣

Noelle Feodora Mok (b. 1993) is an emerging visual artist based in Toronto and lives in Richmond Hill, Ontario. She has recently completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts specializing in Drawing and Painting at OCAD University. Noelle is interested in exploring her cultural heritage, the relationship between tangible food, foodporn, and the digital still life.

莫亦欣生於1993年,現居列治文山的她是多倫多藝術界一顆冉冉升起的新星。她不久前完成了在安省藝術設計學院的美術學士學位,並專精繪畫與油畫。莫亦欣對發掘自身的文化傳承特感興趣,作品喜以感性呈現中國的食物實體和視覺形態,跟邏輯靜物之間產生強烈的對比關係。

This painting depicts an imaginary, illuminated Pineapple Butter Bun among a dark, gloomy city. The time of day seems to hang between dawn and twilight. This particular bun was chosen as a symbol of warmth, home, and hope in a world that is surrounded by darkness and uncertainties, regardless of the day or time.
背景是陰暗無光的城市,前面是一個金光閃耀的菠蘿油,寓意城裡既是黃昏,又是黎明。被藝術家挑選的菠蘿油,成為早晚也被黑暗和不安充斥的世界中的一個亮點,散發出的一份家庭和希望的温暖。

Mellen Xiao

Mellen is a Certified soapmaker and a soapmaking Teacher. She started soap making as a hobby. After the birth of her second child, she decided to switch her career to soap making. She started her first workshop Mellemee Soap and Cosmetic Crafts in 2013. In 2014, she opened her second workshop in China. Now she is planning to bring her business to a new stage.

Raymond Chau

Raymond Chau has been the owner of Kaolin Pottery Studio since 2006. For nearly 20 years, Raymond has taught hundreds of students from different age groups, ethnic backgrounds in a small group setting and community centers. He has exhibited his work at the Outdoor Art Show, the Toronto Gift Show and the Signature Show.

Ronald Chan is a Toronto-based designer and artist graduated in Material Art and Design (Jewellery) Degree from OCAD University in 2015. He specializes in jewellery making. As a result of studying the combination of the accuracy from digital design with traditional fabrication, the applications of these two techniques produce highly detailed and narrative jewellery for his jewellery design.
