The CRAFTERIA: ART AND HANDMADE POP-UP BAZAAR 造藝場大笪地:手造藝術品市集

Funded by the Ontario150 grant, the Crafteria: Arts & Handmade Pop-up Bazaar is a two-day event where Asian artists come together to showcase and promote their creative works at a marketplace setting.

It aims to showcase the BEAUTY OF ASIAN ART at Doors Open Markham 2017 (Sep 30) and to celebrate the Chinese Moon Festival (Oct 1) as a community.

Objective

The Crafteria: Arts & Handmade Pop-up Bazaar is opened to the general public and is free of charge. This is an pop-up style art event. You’ll meet over 20 ASIAN ARTISTS ranging in medium from painting, woodworking, ceramic sculpture, photography, jewellery designers and MORE at their booths.

It is a chance to listen to the STORIES BEHIND their art and the best yet it is an opportunity to purchase their ORIGINAL ARTWORK! It is a FREE two-day, public fine art exhibition showcasing established and emerging artists in the Asian community.

Bazaar Booth Request

The event organizer Across U-hub requires all artists to set up their booth using the specific event woven fabric so that each artist can contribute in creating the Crafteria Bazaar simplistic pop-up art event image, it is mandatory that each artist uses the designated Bazaar Woven Fabric by Across U-hub to set up on the floor of the designated display area. Specifically on September 30, the organizer will place the woven fabric to mark the display area for artists, it is the artists’ responsibility to keep the woven fabric so that it is used for October 1’s display area as well.

Day 1: DOORS OPEN MARKHAM

Craftieria artists will host a booth at Unionville Train Station & Stiver Mill Community Centre as part of Doors Open Markham event.

Booth Time: 10:00am to 4:00pm
(Setup between 9:15am – 10:00am, Tear Down between 4:00pm – 4:30pm)
Booth Location: Unionville Train Station & Stiver Mill Community Centre
Setting: Outdoor (Depending on weather, indoor space can be arranged)

Day 2: MARKHAM MOON FESTIVAL CELEBRATION

Crafteria artists will host a booth at Varley Art Gallery, along with VIPs, musicians and dancers performing on the main stage, all artists will be part of Markham Moon Festival Celebration.

Booth Time: 3:30pm to 8:30pm
(Setup between 2:45pm – 3:30pm, Tear Down between 8:30pm – 9:00pm)
Main Stage Performance: 6:00pm – 8:00pm

Booth Application FAQ's

Artists at all stages of their careers are welcomed to apply. The artist must apply individually under your own name. The Crafteria: Arts and Handmade Pop-Up Bazaar is a fine art and craft show. We only accept original works into the Bazaar. All works must be hand-made by the artist.

The application deadline is Wednesday, September 20th, 2017 at 11:59pm

The organizer will provide:
Bazaar Woven Fabric x 1 (Approximately 6’ x 5’)
All other equipment must be supplied by the artist (i.e. display rack, easels, etc). You will also be responsible for transportation and setup and teardown of the materials within the designated time. The Bazaar Woven Fabric will be distributed to the artist on the event day.

No booth rental fee will be charged to any artists. As the Crafteria Bazaar is purposed to support and promote Asian artists, artists get to keep 100% of profits made from selling his/her original artwork. Across U-hub is a charitable non-profit organization, the organizer welcomes donation by artists.

The Bazaar Woven Fabric is an important booth setup tool so that an overall uniform image can be maintained for the event. Hence by submitting the Crafteria Bazaar application, the artist agrees to pay a nominal fee of $30.00 to the organizer for the cost of the Bazaar Woven Fabric.

If artists agree with the objectives and guidelines of the Bazaar, you can create an account at Across U-hub (www.acrossuhub.com) and then fill out the online application form for the Crafteria Bazaar Event. The online application form will include a brief Artist Biography (400 characters max.); and a brief description of your work (200 characters max.) and valid website or social media URL that shows digital images of the artist’s work. At the end of the application, there will be a prompt for the artist to submit a payment of $30 for the Bazaar Woven Fabric. The organizer will approve the artist’s application upon reviewing the artist’s submitted work.

Jurors will review all submissions. Our jury selects the work based on artistic excellence, originality, ideas and design. The organizer will send your booth assignment once your application is accepted. The $30.00 cost for the Bazaar Woven Fabric will be refunded if the artist is unsuccessful in applying for the booth.

Yes, but each artist must fill out the online application form. If the second artist is sharing the same display area as the primary artist (i.e. 6’x5’ for Sept 30 and 3’x5’ for Oct 1), then only $30.00 will be charged for both artists.

The mandatory hours of the booth are:
Saturday, September 30th, 10:00am – 4:00pm
Sunday, October 1st, 3:30pm – 8:30pm

We do not provide on-site storage. The artist is responsible for bringing his/her work and removing it from the venue each day.
