Video Production Training

This volunteer opportunity is open to youths to apply. All applications will be screened and some will be contacted for interviews.


The goal of the training is

  • to produce a series of compelling pre-event promotional videos for the Project SPOTLIGHT 2019 screening for Joy Beyond Vision Community participants and general incoming audience members.
  • to provide video coverage for the Project SPOTLIGHT 2019 screening on November 30
  • to provide a meaningful video production and post-production learning experience for select youth assistants recommended by Across U-hub


About Project SPOTLIGHT

With the support of Joy Beyond Vision Community (JBVC) and Across U-hub, BrokerTeam hosts and organizes its film festival for a second year: Project SPOTLIGHT 2019. In November 2019, Project SPOTLIGHT will bring to Canadian audiences an inclusive screening of the Hong Kong documentary film My Voice, My Life. Directed by Oscar-winning director Ruby Yang, this internationally acclaimed documentary tells the story of personal growth by a group of at-risk youths as they go through six months of rigorous training to produce a theatrical music performance. Production Assistant

Time commitment:

  • 1-2 shooting sessions in September (10-15 hours)
  • 1-day shooting at the Project SPOTLIGHT screening event (November 30)

Responsibilities:
Helping various video production logistics onset, including organizing shooting schedule, assistant to organize production gears, coordinating between the video producer and cinematographer for any logistics needs.

Requirement:

  • Attention to details
  • Strong interest in video production, with specific interest in producing and cinematography
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills; willingness to learn
  • Can carry 10-15 lb of equipment if needed (optional)

Footage Management &
Editing Assistant

Time commitment:

  • 1-2 shooting sessions in September (10-15 hours)
  • Flexible to accommodate 15-20 hours of work from October to November for editing (will be working from the assistant’s home, with occasional meetings with the producer)

Responsibilities:

  • Assist cinematographer and video producer to manage video footage transfer onset
  • Under the guidance of the video producer, assist to edit sponsored ads together for pre-screening ad reel (October-November)

Requirements:

  • Attention to details
  • Strong interest in video editing or video production in general. Some prior experience with editing software (Adobe Premiere, Final Cut pro…) are preferred but not required.
  • Can do attitude with good communication skills; willingness to learn

Video Translation &
Transcription Assistant

Time commitment:
Flexible to accomodate 20-25 hours in October for video translation and transcription (will be working from the assistant’s home, with occasional in-person/remote meetings with the lead video editor)

Responsibilities

  • Go through the main interview footages and provide Cantonese/Mandarin to English translation and transcription. Communicate with Video Editor to establish and deliver by various post-production deadlines.
  • Assist the video editor to compile multi-language subtitles (English & Chinese)

Requirements:

  • Attention to details
  • Strong interest in writing and video editing
  • Fluency in listening, reading and writing Mandarin, Cantonese and English, with solid writing skills
  • Can do attitude with good communication skills; willingness to learn

Who?

Youth of 16 to 30 years old, who displays strong interests in filming, video editing or Chinese-English translation.
