Tomorrow Starts Today: Neighbourhood Makeover

Since 2010, Across U-hub has been dedicated to raising environmental awareness through our “Tomorrow Starts Today” programs. These initiatives include various stewardship activities designed to educate youth on becoming socially responsible citizens. Our past efforts include tree planting, neighborhood cleanups, invasive species removal, cooking zero-waste meals, educational hiking trips, and more.

The name Tomorrow Starts Today reflects our belief that the future of our planet is shaped by our actions today. With our vision set on a greener future, every action we take now helps build a healthier and more sustainable tomorrow.

This spring and summer, take action for a cleaner planet!
Following our first successful Earth Day cleanup on April 22nd, the Across U-hub community is excited to continue patrolling and cleaning our neighborhoods regularly through our involvement in the Adopt-a-Park and Adopt-a-Road programs.

As of May 2025, our volunteers have collected over 100 pounds of garbage and recyclables — and we’re just getting started!

What is Adopt-a-Park?

Since January 2024, Across U-hub has adopted Risebrough Park in our neighborhood through the City of Markham’s Adopt-a-Park Program. This initiative empowers volunteers to maintain clean, safe, and welcoming green spaces while acting as the city’s “eyes and ears” through Park Watch.

What is Adopt-a-Road?

Launched by our passionate volunteers in May 2025, Across U-hub adopted a section of Warden Avenue (from Steeles Avenue to Denison Street) through York Region’s Adopt-a-Road Program. This program encourages everyone to take pride in their surroundings and help build a cleaner, more beautiful community.

What are our responsibilities as Adopt-a-Park volunteers?

  • Serve as city ambassadors
  • Keep the park and roadside free of litter
  • Report issues like vandalism, graffiti, or illegal dumping
  • Promote public awareness of community stewardship

Objectives

  • Foster civic responsibility by caring for local public spaces
  • Raise environmental awareness and inspire sustainable habits
  • Share practical tips to reduce our environmental footprint
