DIY Face Mask

In the spirit of giving and connection, Across U-hub invites members of the Across community and everyone in the community to share your loving concern to those around you by making your own face mask. DIY face mask kits are made available for those who need materials. Free for everyone. Let’s spread positivity in this time of uncertainty.

“Bear with my clumsiness as I learn to speak a new language to reach out to you in times of distancing turbulence with loving protection. 未能親手觸摸你的手,只好親手造一個口罩保護你”

We would also love to see your creations! Don’t be shy to post your photos and tag us on instagram or facebook. “Together We Carry On” is a place where we can promote positive ways to face this difficult time and embrace the practice of social distancing.

About the face mask

DIY Face Mask Pattern are provided by HK Mask.

HK Mask was developed by Dr. K Kwong from Hong Kong. Dr K Kwong has done extensive research on the effectiveness of using different readily available materials as a disposable middle layer to improve filtration efficiency of a cloth mask.

These DIY cloth mask kits are prepared by Across U-hub volunteers and are distributed for free. Fabrics are made with 100% cotton or a combination of cotton and polyester. Cloth masks have no virus filtering effect. They need to be equipped with qualified filters. They are not the same as surgical or N-95 masks, which are medical devices and are critical supplies for healthcare workers. They also do not replace public health measures such as social distancing and hand washing.

Each mask is to be used at the user’s own risk. Across U-hub and any of our volunteers, staff, Board members shall not be liable for any damages or injuries caused by the usage of the masks.

Cloth masks SHOULD NOT be placed on anyone

  1. under 2 years old,
  2. with trouble breathing,
  3. who is unconscious, or
  4. who is unable to remove the mask themselves.
