CRAFTERIA - Molding Clay Workshop

Crafteria is a combination of the English word “Craft” and Spanish – “tería”, which means a place/hub where something is done.

Crafteria has not only served as a platform for talented instructors to share their passion for the arts but has also functioned as a gathering place for those interested in exploring various art forms. It provides an opportunity for art enthusiasts to connect with like-minded individuals, giving themselves two hours per week for some personal time to unwind, reduce stress, and focus on hands-on crafting, which can have a positive impact on their overall mental well-being.

In this Crafteria project series, we offer unique arts and handmade crafts workshops for youth, from craft coffee, candle making, Pastel Nagomi Art, leather work, bread making to crochet making.

Objectives

  • To build a craft hub to appreciate, respect and explore different forms of handmade craft.
  • To discover a craft idea that cheers up people.
  • To offer a comprehensive introduction to the art of clay molding, providing you with the skills and confidence to create beautiful and functional pieces.

What will you learn?

From this Clay Molding workshop, you will:

  • get familiar with essential tools and hand-building techniques like pinching, coiling, and slab construction,
  • explore your creativity by designing and crafting your own unique pieces,
  • get familiar with the essential tools and equipment used in clay molding, such as sculpting tools,
  • Learn fundamental hand-building techniques, including pinching, coiling, and slab construction, to create various shapes and forms.

What will the workshop include?

  • At least 1 Final Product
  • Materials, tools and equipment being used in the workshops will be included.

Who is the instructor?

Christie Dang (BA, MTS)
Art enthusiast Christie Dang came to Toronto from Hong Kong to pursue education resonating with her passion for art and faith. As a seasoned journalist for commercial media for over two decades, Christie recently graduated with a Master of Theological Studies degree from Emmanuel College of Victoria University in the University of Toronto, she is also a pioneering graduate of the Theology, Spirituality and the Art stream of the program. With her elaborate experiences in different art forms such as painting, collage, ceramic art, photography, and music, Christie will talk about how creativity and art help her to know more about herself and relate to others. In sharing numerous art creation techniques, she will also demonstrate how artistic practices help achieve self-care, especially when dealing with challenges and stresses in life.
