City Warmer: Shoebox Gift
City Warmer is a series of volunteer programs focusing on community service and supporting underprivileged individuals. This initiative provides participants with one of the most impactful hands-on experiences, fostering compassion through direct action.
Actions speak louder than words. Since 1993, Samaritan’s Purse has collected shoebox gifts filled with toys, school supplies, and hygiene items for children worldwide through Operation Christmas Child (OCC).
Since 2006, Across U-hub has been actively involved, motivating youth to pack, inspect, and process thousands of gifts. This year, in Ontario, these shoeboxes will be delivered to the OCC Processing Centre in Mississauga. Join us for a rewarding experience at the Centre!
Objectives
- Raise the awareness of children in desperate situations — victims of war, disease, disaster, poverty, famine, and persecution
- Get to know the journey behind a simple shoebox from shopping for shoebox gifts to the delivery of the shoebox to a child at overseas
What will the program include?
- Interactive group activities to understand the journey behind the shoebox
- Training and presentation by Samaritan’s Purse staff
- Processing and packing thousands of shoeboxes alongside hundreds of volunteers from across Ontario
